Press Release Body = Delphi Academy of Los Angeles wrapped up 2006 with their annual Winter Bazaar, Winter Show, and Parent Appreciation Day, as well as the annual Student Government-sponsored Toy Drive.
The Winter Bazaar, held on Friday, Dec 1, at the Delphi campus, was an opportunity for the kindergarten through high school students at Delphi to make and sell homemade goods, such as ornaments and decorations, candles, soaps, holiday pillows, scarves, hats, clothing, jewelry and more. Not only does the opportunity to participate in this event develop artistic and business skills in the students, but it's also a great way for parents and friends who attend the Bazaar to purchase special and thoughtful presents for their loved ones during the holiday season. Student vendors are allowed to use their profits on whatever they wish. Eleven-year-old Delphi student Cody Hamilton of Sunland, who sold homemade candles and holiday cards, spent his $40 profit on Christmas presents for his mother and father. Next year's Winter Bazaar will be open to the community and is sure to bring plenty of holiday favorites and even more special treats. We hope to see you then!
The Winter Show, held on Friday, Dec 8, at the Brainard Elementary School Auditorium, featured many performances by the Delphi students. The show opened with a wonderful performance by the Elementary School Dance and Flags teams. Some highlights included two songs from the Lower School classes, a performance from the Elementary School Choir, and special dance routine by an all-male dance group. The Elementary, Middle and Upper School bands also performed special numbers for the audience, with performances of "Silent Night" by the Elementary School band, "Carol of the Bells" by the Middle School band, and "Jingle Bells" by the Upper School band. The show closed with all performers on stage to accompany Delphi student Cheyenne Savage of Sunland, age 14, in singing "Around the World at Christmas Time."
Delphi students and staff honored parents on December 15 during the annual Parent Appreciation Day. Parents were invited to the school for a morning of coffee, breakfast goodies and caroling by the Delphi choir. In addition, students had special, handmade gifts for their parents to express their appreciation. One student had this to say in a letter to her mother this year: "You are the best thing that's happened to me! Sometimes there isn't enough love in the world. Maybe that's because you have taken most of it and given it to my brother and I, and we've taken the rest to give back to you. Thank you, mom, for everything that you've done, and I hope that I can show you someday how much you mean to me."
To wrap up the winter festivities and give back to the community during the holiday season, Delphi Academy's Student Government, comprised of Delphi's juniors and seniors, ran Delphi's annual Toy Drive. Altogether, the drive brought in almost three hundred toys. The toys were donated to Firehouse 24 for Spark of Love, the project developed and run by the Southern California Fire Department to collect toys for needy children.
